말씀: 히브리서 11:8-16

제목: 더 나은 본향을 사모하는 믿음

믿음생활의 길은 아는 길을 가는 것이 아니며, 어떻게 그 길을 가야하는지를 계산해서 가는 길도 아닙니다. 그 길이 보이지 않아도, 하나님께서 왜 그 길로 가라 말씀하시는지 이해하지 못해도, 하나님께서 가라 말씀하시면 순종하여 한 걸음 한 걸음 걸어가는 길이 믿음생활의 길입니다.

아브라함은 하나님께서 가라 말씀하신 그 땅으로 가서, 나이가 많아 아이를 낳을 수 없는 상태에 있는 사라에게서 약속의 자녀 이삭을 낳았습니다. 그 약속의 땅에서 손자 야곱까지 살았습니다. 여기서 우리는 하나님의 약속의 말씀에 순종한 아브라함과 하나님과의 약속이 자손들에게 이어지는 믿음의 가문, 순종의 가문을 보게 됩니다. 아브라함은 창조주 하나님을 믿음의 유산으로 자손들에게 물려주었습니다.

우리는 우리의 자손들에게 무엇을 물려주고 있습니까? 우리의 자녀들이 어디를 향해서 가고 있는지, 그 길이 믿음의 길인, 하나님의 말씀에 순종하는 길인지 아닌지 관심을 가져야 합니다. 우리 자녀들이 공부 잘하고, 특별히 나쁜 짓 하지 않고, 좋은 직장에 다니면 괜찮다면서 안심하고 있지는 않은지 깊이 생각해 보아야 합니다. 부모로서 반듯이 해야 할 사명은 우리의 하나님이 자녀들의 하나님으로 이어지는 믿음의 유산을 물려주는 것입니다.

아브라함, 이삭, 야곱 이들은 믿음을 따라 죽었습니다. 그들은 하나님께서 약속하신 밤 하늘의 별처럼, 바다의 모래같이 많은 자손들을 육신의 눈으로 보지 못했지만, 멀리서 믿음의 눈으로 바라보고 기뻐하였습니다.

믿음의 사람은 자신의 눈에 아무런 증거가 보이지 않아도 하나님의 말씀에 순종하는 사람입니다. 믿음의 사람은 믿음으로 살다가 믿음으로 죽습니다. 눈에 보이는 것이 없어도 슬퍼하지 않습니다. 오히려 소망가운데 기뻐하면서 죽음을 맞이합니다. 왜냐하면 하나님은 반듯이 약속을 지키시는 하나님으로 믿기 때문입니다.

히브리서 저자는 하나님께서 아브라함에게 약속하신 그 약속은 이루어졌다. 이스라엘은 큰 민족을 이루었다. 우리들이 그 약속의 열매요, 증거요, 증인들이라고 선포하고 있습니다. 하나님의 자녀들아 믿음의 길에서 뒤돌아가지 말고 믿음으로 앞으로 나아가자 말합니다. 우리가 바라보며 나아가는 길은 이 땅이 아닌 하나님께서 우리를 위해 예비하신 하늘나라다라고 전합니다.

오늘 본문의 말씀은 우리들에게도 매우 중요합니다. 우리들도 눈에 보이지 않고 손에 잡혀지지 않으면 너무나 쉽게 마음이 상하고, 낙심하고, 포기하기 때문입니다. 믿음은 보이는 것을 붙잡는 것이 아니라 보이지는 않지만, 하나님의 말씀에 순종하여 가는 여정입니다. 하나님께서 우리들이 순종하는 모습을 바라보시면서 기뻐하시고 자랑스러워하실 것을 우리들은 믿음의 눈으로 바라보아야 합니다.

믿음의 사람은 하나님의 뜻에 따라, 믿음으로 생각하고, 믿음으로 말하며, 믿음으로 행동하는 사람입니다. 그 믿음의 사람이 저와 여러분이 되시길 소망합니다.

사랑의 하나님 아버지!

앞이 보이지 않는 길을 간다는 것이 두렵고 떨리기도 합니다. 때로는 포기하고 싶은 마음도 들기도 합니다. 그러나 약속의 하나님을 신뢰합니다. 하나님께서 이루어주실 것을 믿고 오늘도 한 걸음씩 믿음으로 순종하게 하옵소서.

빛과 길이 되시는 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 아멘!

Scripture: Hebrews 11:8-16

Title: Faith That Desires a Better Homeland

The path of faith is not a familiar one, and it's not about calculating or planning your way through it. Even when you can't see the path or fully understand why God is leading you that way, living a life of faith means obeying God's direction one step at a time.

Abraham obeyed God's command and journeyed to the land God promised. Despite his old age and his wife Sarah's inability to have children, they eventually had a son named Isaac. This promise continued with their grandson Jacob. In this story, we see Abraham's obedience to God's promise, passing down a legacy of faith and obedience to his descendants.

What are we passing on to our children? We need to be concerned about the path our children choose and whether that path is marked by faith and obedience to the Word of God. It's not just about their academic success or avoiding wrongdoing; it's about passing on the legacy of faith where God becomes their God.

Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob all died in faith. They didn't see the fulfillment of God's promise, where their descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky or the sand on the seashore. Nevertheless, they looked forward to this promise with joy, even though it was distant and beyond their lifetimes.

A person of faith obeys God's Word, even when there's no visible proof. They live and die in faith. They don't despair over what they can't see but, instead, rejoice in hope because they trust in God, who always keeps His promises.

The author of Hebrews reminds Israelites that God's promise to Abraham was fulfilled. Israel became a great nation. We declare ourselves as the fruit, the evidence, and the witnesses of that promise. Beloved children of God, let's not turn back from the path of faith but continue moving forward in faith. Our destination is not this earthly land but the heavenly kingdom God has prepared for us.

Today's message is crucial for us. We, too, easily get discouraged and tempted to give up when we can't see the visible. Faith is about believing in the unseen and obeying God's Word as we journey forward. We should look at our faith journey with the eyes of faith, knowing that God will be pleased and glorified in our obedience.

A person of faith follows God's will, thinks with faith, speaks with faith, and acts with faith. May we become people of faith, just like those mentioned in the passage.

Loving Heavenly Father,

Walking a path that isn't visible can be scary and daunting. There are times when we want to give up. Nonetheless, we trust in the God of promises. We pray that God will continue to enable us to move forward in faith, even when we can't see what lies ahead.
