말씀: 히브리서 12:1-11

제목: 예수님을 바라보고 끝까지 인내하는 성도

하나님의 자녀된 그리스도인이 가져야 할 믿음은 어떠한 믿음일까요? 하나님은 하나님의 자녀들이 잘못하게 되면 어떻게 하시나요? 우리를 유혹하는 죄와 어떻게 싸워야 할까요? 이 모든 것에 대한 대답을 오늘 본문에서 말씀하고 있습니다.

히브리서에서 믿음 장하면 11장입니다. 소망가운데 고난을 견디고 믿음을 지킨 믿음을사람들을 기록해 놓았기 때문입니다. 히브리서 12장은 11장에 기록된 믿음의 사람들 말고도 허다하게 많은 증인들이 더 있다고 증거합니다.

믿음의 증인들은 죄를 벗어버리고, 인내하며, 믿음의 경주를 하는 사람들입니다. 우리들이 본 받아야 할 믿음의 증인 중의 증인은 바로 하나님의 독생자 예수님입니다. 예수님께서는 고난 받고 십자가를 참으시며, 부끄러움 까지도 게의치 아니하시고 기쁨으로 견디심은 이 일로 인해서 귀한 영혼들이 하나님 아버지께로 돌아올 것임을 아셨기 때문입니다. 그러므로 믿음을 지키는 성도들은 믿음의 주요 온전케하시는 이인 예수님을 바라보아야 합니다.

그리스도인들은 영적 전쟁터에서 원수 마귀와 그를 따르는 악한 영들과 싸우는 십자가의 군인들입니다. 전쟁터에서 휴식을 찾는 것은 어리석은 생각입니다. 하나님은 자녀된 백성들이 영적 전쟁에서 피 흘리기까지는 싸우고 있지 않다면서 책망을 합니다. 히브리서 저자는 하나님께서 자녀들을 책망을 하시면서도, 혹여나 하나님의 꾸지람을 듣고 하나님의 자녀들이 낙심할까하여, 하나님의 징계는 사랑의 매라고 설명해 줍니다.

이스라엘 백성들이 하나님께 받은 징계는 아버지가 자녀를 사랑하기 때문에 내리는 사랑의 매입니다. 만약 하나님께서 징계하지 않는다면, 하나님의 자녀가 아닙니다. 이스라엘 백성들이 올바른 믿음의 길로 걸어가지 않는다면, 하나님은 징계를 통해 백성들이 올바른 길로 걸어가도록 하십니다. 하나님께서 이렇게 징계하심이 이스라엘 백성들이 하나님의 자녀라는 증거가 됩니다. 오히려 죄를 범해도 하나님께서 징계하지 않으신다면 그것은 심각한 일이 됩니다.

하나님께서 이스라엘 백성들을 징계하고 계심은 하나님께서 죄를 범하는 이스라엘 백성들을 아직도 버리지 아니하셨다는 증거이므로, 징계를 받았다고 해서 하나님 아버지로부터 멀어지지 말고, 하나님을 더욱 공경해야 합니다.

하나님께 징계를 받으면서도 하나님께 감사하고, 하나님을 나의 하나님으로 섬길 수 있는 근거는 하나님의 징계를 통해 우리의 믿음이 정결해지기 때문입니다. 하나님께 징계를 받는 순간은 즐거워 보이지 않지만, 그 징계로 인해 우리들의 삶에 변화가 일어나고, 의와 평강의 열매를 맺게 된다고 확신합니다.

죄를 범하여 하나님의 징계 가운데 있을 때, 징계를 통해 우리들이 정결한 하나님의 백성으로 다시 새롭게 세워질 수 있음을 믿고, 끝까지 인내하는 우리 모두가 되길 소망합니다.

사랑의 하나님아버지!

하나님께서 자녀된 우리들을 징계하실 때에 낙심하지말게 하옵소서. 징계를 통해 하나님께서 변함없이 우리들을 사랑하고 계심을 믿고, 우리들이 징계를 통해 새롭게 변화되어 의와 평강의 열매를 맺게 하옵소서.

Scripture: Hebrews 12:1-11

Title: Saints Enduring with Patience, Fixing Their Eyes on Jesus

What kind of faith should a child of God, a Christian, possess? How does God respond when His children go astray? How should we combat the temptations of sin? Today's passage addresses all of these questions.

In the book of Hebrews, chapter 11 is often referred to as the "faith chapter." It is because it records the faith of those who endured suffering amidst their hope. Hebrews chapter 12 tells us that besides the people of faith mentioned in chapter 11, there is also a great cloud of witnesses.

These witnesses of faith have cast off sin, endured, and run the race of faith. The ultimate example for us to follow among these witnesses is none other than Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Jesus endured suffering, even the shame of the cross, and did not waver in joy because He knew that through His sacrifice, precious souls would return to God the Father. Therefore, the saints who keep the faith should fix their gaze on Jesus, the perfecter of their faith.

Christians are soldiers of the cross engaged in spiritual warfare against the enemy, the devil, and his evil forces. Seeking rest on the battlefield is a foolish thought. The author of Hebrews explains that God's discipline is the result of His love for His children. If God did not discipline, it would mean that we are not His children. The discipline God gives to the Israelites is the proof of His love for them. Instead of becoming discouraged by discipline, we should respect God even more.

Receiving discipline from God and being thankful for it, we can serve Him as our God. The reason is that God's discipline purifies our faith. Though it may not seem joyful at the moment, we can be certain that God's discipline brings transformation in our lives, yielding the fruit of righteousness and peace.

Even when we sin and find ourselves under God's discipline, let us believe that through this discipline, we can be renewed as God's pure people. Let us endure to the end with patience, believing in God's unchanging love for us.

Loving Heavenly Father,

When You discipline us as Your children, please do not let us be discouraged. Help us believe that Your discipline is a sign of Your unchanging love for us, and through it, we are transformed to bear the fruit of righteousness and peace. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen!
